Shirley Jean Cox Awards + Fellowships in Medieval Studies

We are delighted to announce two new sets of awards and fellowships for our students made possible by the generous support of Cheryl Kinney of Dallas, Texas.

For undergraduate students, we will offer two prizes and several grants.

Prizes

Nominations for the Undergraduate Cox Thesis and Paper Prizes will be due April 20, 2020 and will require a letter from the faculty nominator and a copy of the thesis or paper.

  • The Undergraduate Cox Thesis Prize is an award of $300 for the best undergraduate honors thesis on a medieval topic.
  • The Undergraduate Cox Paper Prize is an award of $150 for the best undergraduate paper (of at least seven pages) written in a medieval course or on a medieval topic during the 2019-20 academic year.

Grants

The institute will also be awarding several grants of $500 to $1500 to support undergraduate study abroad, workshops, unpaid internships, and summer study related to medieval topics. To apply, complete this form. You will be prompted to upload a cover letter and preliminary budget and to provide the name and contact information of a faculty member who we may contact for a recommendation. Deadline is March 13, 2020.
