The symposium, “Newfangled Values: Imagination, Curiosity, Community,” will be celebrated on October 4 in honor of Professor Ingham

Friday, October 3, 2025

Professor Shannon Gayk, one of the orginazers of the symposium in honor of Patty Ingham, has shared the following message:

"If you are planning on coming to the reception at 5:30 or the afternoon events only, it would help us if you could RSVP here today (feel free to indicate “Reception only) so we can plan accordingly.

If you are planning to attend any of the scholarly panels with our special guests (Goodmann, Grady, Guynn, Lochrie, and Scala), we encourage you to take a look in advance at the brief materials that the panelists have precirculated, which are available here. We will also have a few copies on hand at the event.

Like IAS “Bloomington symposia,” which Patty pioneered, we hope these sessions will function more like masterclasses than lectures.  We have asked the panelists to speak briefly and informally about a premodern text (in relation to a topic, theory, or idea of Patty’s) but hope that at least half of each session will consist of rich conversation about the text.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Warmly,

Shannon"

The Medieval Studies Institute hopes that our community can join us in celebrating Professor Ingham while exchanging knowledge and conversations over coffeee and refreshments.

Description of the programming for the Symposium, which will take place in Maxwell Hall from 8:30am to 6:30pm
