This fund was established in honor of Clifford Flanigan (1941-1993), professor of comparative literature and a founding member of the Medieval Studies Institute. In memory of his commitment to facilitating opportunities for graduate students, the fund provides travel assistance for graduate students studying the Middle Ages to attend conferences. This award is restricted to those graduate students who have completed a MEST minor and/or certificate.
Funds may be used to support graduate student research, construed broadly; examples include: research travel, participation in professional development programming (e.g. summer language programs), research resources (e.g. books, microfilm, technology).
Students must submit:
- Conference Abstract
- Budget Proposal (include name of conference, date, location, relevant conference information, and budget)
Information about IU Scholarships:
- You will be asked to fill out your general application before you get to the MEST-specific applications. In your general application you do not need to fill out the scholarship essay. MEST will only review the essay submitted for each award and will not consider the information requested by the general application.
